Texas Bandmasters Association
Bandmasters Review • June 2015
5
Now is the time for you to
finalize plans to attend the TBA
Convention/Clinic July 23-26.
Pre-register before July 1 and
take advantage of the lower fees.
After July 1, register on-site at the
convention.
Reserve your hotel
room before the June 24 online
housing deadline
. Because TBA,
TCDA, and TODA are meeting at
the same time, I would recommend
reserving your hotel as soon as
possible.
I would like to thank TBA
President Bruce Beach, the Board
of Directors, and office staff Robin
Tovar and Justin Young for their
diligent work in preparing this year’s
outstanding convention. Upon
reviewing the schedule printed in
this magazine, you will see this is
one year you cannot afford to miss!
With convention dates falling early,
you will be able to attend and still
have plenty of time to return home
for your summer band program.
Schedule
You can review the Convention
Schedule of Events on pages
16-27 of this magazine. Visit
texasbandmasters.org
and view
the online schedule which
includes clinic descriptions and
bios of the clinicians. There are
clinics designed for every level
from beginning band through
college band and even a clinic for
community bands. With so many
great choices, you will want to plan
your schedule carefully. Note that
there are some clinics repeated on
Sunday morning to give you more
options.
Concerts
We are proud to feature Boston
Brass Thursday evening and the
U.S. Air Force Band of the West
on Friday evening. I know their
performances will be very inspiring
and entertaining.
This year we are very pleased
to focus on Community Bands
at the convention. There are five
outstanding community bands that
will perform. In addition to the
concerts, Frank Ticheli will present
a clinic with the Woodlands
Concert Band as his demonstration
group following the band’s concert
on Saturday.
Fast Forward
While TBA has always welcomed
college students to our convention,
this year we begin a special series
of clinics called FAST FORWARD.
These clinics are designed for
undergraduate college music majors
and will cover topics from student
teaching to resume writing and job
interviews. You will see these clinics
listed as FF (Fast Forward) in the
convention schedule. In addition
to the four special clinics, college
student attendees are encouraged
to attend concerts and any other
clinics as well. If you know a college
student, please encourage them to
attend the TBA Convention/Clinic
this summer. They can pre-register
online or at the convention ($25).
Mariachi Educators
For the first time, TBA is pleased
to host the Association of Texas
Mariachi Educators at our annual
convention. Their business meeting
will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
The association will offer mariachi
judges training 8:00 - 9:30 a.m.
on Sunday. You will also want
to attend the UIL State Mariachi
Festival Pilot Information session
with Dr. Bradley Kent at 10:00 a.m.
on Sunday.
Exhibitors
With almost 650 booths in our
Exhibit Hall, we have the largest
summer music show in the country!
The revenue from booth sales,
advertising and TBA sponsorships
contribute about half of the TBA
annual operating budget income.
Please express your gratitude to our
business partners and exhibitors
by spending time with them in the
Exhibit Hall this summer. Keeping
good traffic in the Hall is essential
for continuing TBA’s success with
exhibitors. Without their continued
support, we would not be able to
present the convention at the level
we now enjoy.
Get some rest! Enjoy your time
with family and friends. I look
forward to seeing you at the TBA
Convention/Clinic in San Antonio
July 23-26. Have a great summer!
