Position Title: Middle School Band Director

Position Description: POSITION OVERVIEW: The KIPP Austin College Prep (KACP) Head Band Director is primarily responsible for ensuring that every KACP student achieves the academic skills, intellectual habits and character traits necessary to succeed in the nation’s top colleges and universities. The head band director will teach a full load of music classes including steel drums, concert band, and classical guitar, will prepare and implement lessons that focus on reading music and preparing for concerts, and will manage the music program at the middle school.

QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 3 years music teaching experience
Experience teaching underserved students (preferred)
Strong knowledge of subject area
Experience teaching percussion (preferred)
Experience in arranging and music composition (preferred)
Bachelor’s degree (required)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement a steel drums, concert band, and classical guitar curriculum that is aligned with high expectations
Attend and participate in all school performances
Develop academically rigorous lessons
Manage the middle school band budget
Organize fundraisers, field lessons, and outside of school music opportunities for students
Work and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders (booster organization, music related non-profit organizations, etc…)
Maintain instrument inventory and library
Assess individual student’s progress and learning needs; demonstrate a relentless focus on helping students achieve
Support general education and special education students in achieving academic success and character growth
Help shape and develop a school-wide atmosphere that best suits the needs of our students, teachers, and families
Communicate students’ progress toward realizing academic and character development goals with families on a regular basis
